Mike's Beach has long been a respected scuba diving destination, and with the implementation of the new Waketickeh Creek Conservation Area the diving can only get better. Right out front, artificial and natural structures support sea life in a very safe environment, suitable for classes and novice divers as well as night dives and second dives. Most of the structure is within a 40 foot depth, and a wide bowl provides a good area of controlled depth. A canyon off the north end of our dock gives quick access to waters over 100 feet deep. Marine life in this area includes anemones, rock fish, perch, and Giant Pacific Octopus on structures around 60 feet.
The two extensive south reefs offer interesting diving for beginner, intermediate and advanced divers. Access is from shore, by boat, or by dive kayak. The reefs are stepped, with profuse life around 20 feet, at 40 to 50 feet, and cloud sponge gardens around 100 feet. Rockfish abound, as do lingcod and perch. Plumose anemones cover the rocks, and wolf eels and Giant Pacific Octopus are plentiful. Our waterfront air fill station fills large groups of tanks, including high-pressure DIN tanks, virtually instantly. We're using the latest Ingersoll-Rand compressor, which delivers 21 cfm and 5000 psi. 12 high-pressure titanium-steel banks and 7 fill whips mean your group can spend your time diving, instead of waiting for air. 5 air fills are included with our 2-night dorm package. Nitrox fills are available down the road in Hoodsport. Call us at 1-800-231-5324 or e-mail us for more information and to make reservations. |
