Our History

Resort in 1958Mike's Beach Resort was established in 1951 by Bob Schultz, an early scuba diver, underwater filmmaker, and school teacher. Bob decided to leave the city with his wife and three-month-old son Mike to start a resort from the humble beginnings of two old beach cabins and a Flying A gas station, just a few miles north of Lilliwaup, Washington, on Hwy 101.

For the next 37 years he laid down boards and hammered nails with the help of his son Mike, building what is today a premiere Hood Canal resort. The Schultzes are the longest continuous owners and operators of a business on all of the Canal. Bob passed away in 1988 but Mike, his mother Trudy and wife Iliana continue to build and expand the resort, always improving what vacationers and scuba divers have come to know as a haven in nature, and a treasure chest of diving wonders.
