Water defines the Olympic Peninsula, but the forests, mountains and wildlife make this a truly unique place. Hiking, mountain biking, and mountaineering are all easily accessible from Mike's Beach. The resort grounds include 160 acres, much in forested trails. We're located right in the heart of road and trail access to the eastern Olympic National Forest and Olympic National Park, and make a good basecamp for day trips ranging from tame to wild. The general store in Eldon, just a mile and a half away, sells Trail Park Passes for trailhead parking in the National Forest. Across the highway from the resort, the Hamma Hamma River Road leads into the Olympic National Forest, giving access to trails and mountaineering routes. The Lena Lake Trail is one of the 10 most popular in North America, graded to a gentle slope on a broad, smooth path. Soon after leaving the parking lot, the trail enters virgin forest before arriving at 55-acre Lena Lake. Several other trails leave the same road, for hiking and mountaineering access within the National Forest and into Olympic National Park. Also close by are the Duckabush, Dosewallip and Skokomish valleys which give road and trail access to the wilderness areas of the National Forest and National Park. For more information, check out the Olympic National Forest web site. The Washington Trails Association also has good information on Olympic trails.
